If you‘re interested in a quick and captivating sci fi series, then the Binti series is for you. These books follow the coming of age of Binti of the Himba tribe. Binti leaves home to attend school at an intergalactic university. What she learns expands way beyond her studies. Throughout the series, Binti morphs from a human girl into another species she‘s been taught to hate. As Binti begins to love others deeply, she does the same herself.

“All Boys Aren‘t Blue” is a memoir following George M. Johnson‘s coming of age in their early, middle, and late adolescence. The memoir also explores family dynamics, masculinity ,gender expectations, finding community, finding oneself, sexual exploration /discovery, dating, and more. “All Boys Aren‘t Blue“ asks us to consider a world where those deemed as other, misfit , and marginalized can be multidimensional rather than monolithic.

A quick and powerful exploration of generational trauma ,coming of age , and fate v free will. This novella takes a spin on a dark history through a fantastical exploration of blackness through the lens of merpeople. Though the story focuses on a fantastical underwater civilization there are many poignant connects to the collective past of the black diaspora . There‘s a lot of meat in this very short book !

“The Artist‘s Way” by Julia Cameron is a great way to unpack one‘s creative self using practical tools. This self help book , which could have just easily been just vibes and nice words, demands
for true reflection, accountability, and action towards one‘s artistic journey and creative process.
