The Glass Castle: A Memoir | Jeannette Walls

Pickpick

The Glass Castle was a fantastic read, it dives in through the life of a girl and all the hardship and struggles she‘s had to experience and endure. We learn about her hard past and struggles though life with poverty. And how despite all of it she‘s been able to push through and make something of her life despite not having great influence. If you like books that are dreary but sweet this book would be a perfect match for you.

Nancyreimer The point of view Jeannette Walls narrates in the first person, describing the events of her childhood. She describes her thoughts and emotions at the time instead of offering insight from her adult self and she takes us through the book with her as if it was her at that exact moment in time through her eyes. 1y
Nancyreimer She uses the pronouns “I,” “me,” “we,” and “us,” in order to tell a story from the her perspective. She is the protagonist relaying her experiences. 1y
MissYaremcio I think the description of “dreary but sweet“ was the best description for this book! 6/6 1y

A theme we see a great deal is strength and perseverance, a example where we can see this is when Jeannette‘s father throws her into the water despite her almost drowning, struggles makes you unique, you either sink or swim. If you like books that make you feel empathy for character this is a great choice. The book is about Jeannette and her family and everything they have gone through, she tells us about her experiences.

Nancyreimer Despite her father being an alcoholic, he was a intelligent person and was someone who she looked up too. 2y
Nancyreimer She tells us about horrible things she‘s experienced but as a little girl did not understand, we see another theme here about the loss of innocence, and that these things are the things that shaped her to be who she is. 2y
MissYaremcio Great work Nancy! 6/6 2y
