It took me awhile to become engaged in this book, and I actually put it down for awhile and came back to it. Its point of view is entirely female, which provides a thought provoking and illuminating view of nazi Germany and the aftermath. One aspect of the time it poignantly portrays is how isolated and sheltered people were from the horrors of the Holocaust. I agree with those who feel it makes a good book of the month read.

The Golden Egg | Donna Leon

Wow! Simplistically complex and a kicker of an ending too. No one describes food better than Donna Leon too!

Engaging, easy to read, and entertaining. It takes the reader on an interesting journey, figuratively and literally around D.C.

I really loved this book. Her practical advice about life's journeys is as valuable as her knowledge about making pies. This book truly is a bible when it comes to making pies and it is a cinch to follow. She makes you feel good about yourself!

Shadow of Night: A Novel | Deborah Harkness

I did not enjoy this book as much as the first because there were times when the morbidity dragged on a bit redundantly. I found the trip back in history to be illuminating though. It also shines a light on being true to yourself and each other in relationships.

I found this book to be an eventful read that kept me engaged. I enjoyed the character's interactions and development through the book. My favorite character was the Bishop house. It would be truly epic to live in a home with such a quirky personality. I really liked the fanciful blend of storytelling with the whole vampire, witch, daemon spin.

I initially started reading this book and didn't like the direction it was heading and then put it down for awhile. I then came back to it and read it through pretty quickly. I was surprised that I enjoyed the mature Scout who was still sorting through Maycomb's issues in her Scoutlike way. I was disenchanted with the changes in Calpurnia, but I have to give Harper Lee props for taking the leap in presenting a changed Maycomb from TKAM
