This is my 3rd Chris Bohjalian novel, after Midwives and The Hour of The Witch both of which I rated 5 stars. I enjoy it but was my least of the 3 and I will probably rate a 3 on good reads. Still will not be my last of his. The ending was unpredictable but very unrealistic and I found it humorous for some reason. Shes a very unlikable character that has a drinking problem which causes a hard fast downward spiral.

Maria514626 Oh, that‘s disappointing! It sounded so good. This one was amazing. (edited) 15h
MoBee @Maria514626, That one is on my To be read list. He is a very good author so I'll continue to read his work. 15h

Ok, Probably an unpopular opinion but I've decided to bail on this one. The writing is slow and I've found myself rereading Passages because her writing style is confusing to me. Half way thru it and just not liking it at all. The picture is of My finch so if anyone has the app you will understand why he's so cute. My code is L8Z2HEL3VX is interested in being my neighbor

Finished and Enjoyed Where The Crawdads Sing so I decided to try this one. As someone who grew up in a strict Pentecostal household during the summer months when I went to visit my mother , this may hit close to home.

I tend to avoid hype up books, but my daughter who absolutely hates to read asked me to take her to the library for this book. Then she proceeded to fly thru it and is now insisting that I do too. So here it goes.

Prairiegirl_reading I held off because of the hype and the whole Reese Witherspoon thing but now I‘m mad at myself for waiting! Just read it last month for book club and really enjoyed it as did everyone in my group. I hope you do too! 3w
GerardtheBookworm As long as she is reading. Personally, not my cup of tea but hopefully she continue to find books she loves. 3w
MoBee Just finished and I enjoyed it. 2w
MoBee @GerardtheBookworm , that's what I said.. Shes very intelligent young woman but definitely more of a math and science person than fictional literature. 2w

Helping me realize that my pain is my pain but I'm also reliving generation after generation of trauma surrounding abandonment. My mother abandoned me physically, she felt abandoned by my grandmother emotionally who felt the same way emotionally about my great grandmother who was sent away from the family at the age of 3 . I knew our family history, but this book help me piece it all together and why this keeps happening

I'm slowly making my way thru thus wonderful series. So far, this one is my favorite and found myself laughing even when they found the body. Only the British can make murder this humorous. I read this in a day, I just couldn't put it down

Written very badly. I struggled thru the entire book. What I did like was learning about these cases, but I found the writing was repetitive and the fact she mentions several times how horrible America was when these cases had absolutely nothing to do with America was a little off putting. Also strays from the victims to other cases that may or may not be connected. It was just really confusing.

KristiAhlers Yeah I‘ve already run into a thinly veiled snide comment about America and I‘m not even through the first chapter. This should be fun. Why can‘t authors keep their opinions to themselves in books like this. 2mo
MoBee @KristiAhlers, and skips around to other cases. But did it in a way that I stayed confused and lost my focus. Soon I didn't know if im reading about the original 8 missing women or not. 2mo

Now that I've finished and thought about it.. Here my review, I hated it.. The Characters are blend and unlikable all of them, Very repetitive, a few good power points made but overall extremely boring.. I felt like I was reading an essay instead of story. I wanted to read at least one classic this year and I accomplished that. After hearing such high praise about this book for as long as I can remember it, I'm very disappointed.

Alfoster I think this is a hard one to read without some discussion! There‘s so much to debate and debrief that reading it on your own would be difficult and annoying! 3mo

Second Book in the Hungarian Tea House Mysteries.. I like the fact it introduced new characters, but the plot didn't hold my interest like the first book in the series did.. I will continue on and eventually read the third book because I do enjoy these characters and I want to know what is in store for them in the future

Excited to start the first in A Hungarian Tea House Mystery.. I honestly haven't seen many Hungarian novels, my own children are Hungarian descent on their fathers side, but unfortunately are not close to that side of the family, divorce is such a nasty situation, anyways.. Maybe just maybe I can learn some traditional cultural customs even tho it's just a cozy. Open to suggestions on any other Hungarian novels

My Book Club's January Read. I'm seeing some mixed reviews and only read one other book by this author, Plain Truth which I found so-so. I thought about skipping this month but then read the description and it caught my interest, Ancient Egyptian Mythology and Burial sites. So I picked up my copy and going to at least give it a Go.

Bookishlie Oooo never read a book by this author but this sounds i intriguing….. 6mo

The most beautiful and accurate book about my beloved home, I have ever read. Well I live an hour away just across the state line but still these are my people. My own great grandfather was from that county died in the mines at age 40, my own grandmother was born in a coal camp. Another form of Slavery that no one talks about and very few are even aware of. The Forgotten Americans, my only complaint is The Reader mispronounced Appalachian

While I adored The Nightingale and The Great Alone, this one felt me feeling let down a bit.. Loose ends that could have been wrapped up, I didn't fall in love with the characters like I usually do in her books. The teenager daughter was annoying, words and phrases became too repetitive for me to enjoy. I enjoyed it till they set out for California. I rated it a 4 on goodreads but was very tempted to only give it a 3

Eggs Well said and I agree. Kind of trope-y in 2nd half 7mo
MoBee @Eggs , I just wanted them to go back to the farm, and I wanted to know where her husband went. Second half of the book was all downhill I thought. 7mo

This Purtain Historical Fiction/Thriller was a great October read..I gave it 5⭐ on goodreads. There were people in the world who are good and people who were evil, but most of them were some mixture of both and did what they did simply because they were mortal.

Was gifted this lovely book on Greek Myths.. The artwork is fantastic and the myths are written so anyone can understand and enjoy it. Fabulous book for all ages. As a Hellenic Pagan this book just makes my heart happy.

The_Penniless_Author I love this book so much! Was gifted this book by my step mother, sounds like an interesting and unique plot. Was a bit put off by the title of the book I have to say, Goodreads has a high rating but there are some awful reviews. Guess theres only one way to decide for myself and that's to read it.Going to try to approach it as a fun fictional entertaining read instead of taking it seriously. Why does a 4 star rating have so many bad reviews?

Reviewsbylola I thought it was a fantastic book. Enjoy! 1y
