Seriously mixed feelings about this one - not sure if it was the format of how it was written or the story itself, but I can't say I loved it like I loved the others. And yet, I can't stop thinking about it. Hmmm...

I've read everything that Kate Morton has written, and love immersing myself in her old English family novels. While not my favorite of her books, this story of an old family mystery put to rest by a restless and determined detective was certainly engaging.

I've read a lot of contemporary historical fiction on WWII, and really enjoyed this story. Best friends Tom and Alistair approach the war differently, each fighting different battles, and each in love with the same woman. Yet because of the war, there was no competition between them. The events that inspired this book are beautiful and heart wrenching, and the story has stayed with me long after completion.

The second novel of Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children, Hollow City is a fast-paced continuation of the adventures Jacob Portman and his peculiar friends. Parts of this book were brilliant, but some felt a little contrived compared to book one. In the first novel, Rigg's spends time developing the children's characters, which paints a fascinating and engaging story. This second book has less character development, and was not as rich.

I started this book thinking it was the final leg of Kvothe's journey - AGH! 1000 pages later, I realize there is yet a third book to come (with no clear release date - AGH!). Can't wait...must read

Billed as "Harry Potter for grown ups," I was intrigued and not disappointed. While I don't necessarily agree with the comparison, I understand it.

MrsMegWich I think a cross between Harry Potter and A Game of Thrones...still doesn't do it justice! 8y

A beautiful classic. A portrait of life in America the 1920s. I fell in love with Francie Nolan and her family.
