Pickpick

This work of investigative journalism from sources that are now over 150 reveals a Tennessee that for any number of reasons are not a part of common understanding. From research using only slave ads in newspapers from across the state Mr. Carey shows how slavery was a part of Tennessee life from the first white settlers until 1865. An important and unsettling work.

One of the most refreshing works of fiction I have read in recent years. Towle‘s characters are memorable and the book‘s organizational structure accommodate well the fifty-plus year length of the story. And the depth of description of everything from furnishings to manners to the locations within the Metropole leave me wanting more. Thank you Internet and Google maps for providing additional details to enhance the already rich scenes.
