Whew....that was SOOOOOOO long! Read this for The Well-Trained Mind Histories. Now on to The Communist Manifesto. From liberty, freedom, and the pursuit of equality to the ultimate Police State. That's going to make sense!

If you have kids...read this to them! It is never too soon to introduce kids to Dostoyevsky. Murder, corruption, redemption, forgiveness...these are heavy topics; but Yehoshua does a brilliant job rewriting this classic for young children.
My kids loved it. #CrimeandPunishment #Dostoyevsky #ClassicsforKids #RussianLit

Mixed feelings. Fraser put in a lot of research, but it wasn't supporting evidence for “the American dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder.“ Instead, it was a hit piece on Rose Wilder Lane and anyone or any idea associated with her. I felt terrible for having read it. For some, it may corrupt your positive feelings about the Little House series; so if you love that series, don't read Prairie Fires. It isn't worth it. #LittleHouse #LauraIngallsWilder

4/5 stars.
Novella. Super short.
Typical emotional character investment from Wharton.
SOMEWHAT OF A SPOILER ALERT...

Personally: I felt like I was on the sled that slammed into the elm at the end of the story.

I love dystopian, so naturally, this will be one of my favorites for life. However, it also gave me a lot to think about, some of which is not going to be popular. Here's my review: https://www.greatbookstudy.com/2019/07/the-handmaids-tale-by-margaret-atwood.htm...
Have you READ it? and what did it cause you to think about?

pilardib I'm glad I waited until 2019 to read this book 4mo
LapReader I wish it was dystopian and not more and more like reality. 4mo
TheEllieMo It‘s always described as dystopian, but as Atwood herself states, there‘s nothing in the book that hasn‘t already been done. That‘s what makes it all the more disturbing and thought-provoking. 4mo

GreatBookStudy @TheEllieMo This is true. That‘s what makes it so poignant. 4mo
GreatBookStudy @LapReader We enjoy so many liberties today, but what gives us pause is the absolute possibility of the instant loss of those liberties. And Atwood does bring that to our attention. 4mo
GreatBookStudy @pilardib Like me...I read it in 1990, and it didn‘t have an impact like it does now. 4mo

Amazing memoir about a courageous young woman who survived the Nazi concentration camps. She always fought for her life, and almost lost it at the very end, when she was saved by Oskar Schindler! I couldn't put it down and read it in under 24 hours. My book review: https://www.greatbookstudy.com/2019/06/i-will-plant-you-lilac-tree-by-laura.html

Not an easy read, due to the writing style, but worthy. A coming-of-age story for a young man, eager to go to war and become a man; however, what he thought would make him a man, a war wound, was not true; rather he learned something far more internal and eternal.
