This book is... Tough. The premise is interesting, looking at the goings on of a small society of doomsday-ers named The Seekers in the 1950s and their continuous struggle to believe their predictions as each message to them from their aliens turned out to be false (as in, nothing happened.)

This is not a Heaven's Gate style cult. No one gets hurt, just their pride and reputation. It's dry, but the desire to see the end keeps you going.

The initial beginning of this book is so interesting, and the description of the beginning of The Seekers is engaging. But Gods above, I'm finding the path to the end an absolute slog. I almost fall asleep reading it, which isn't great! I do not like bailing on books, so I'm trying so hard to finish this, but my attention rope is fraying.

A delightful romp into what happens to your local friend group after life and eldritch horrors get to them. There's a lot of similes. Like, a LOT. However when you get past the constant nostalgia callbacks, it's a great book.

Wonderful book that doesn't rush through its content. Author let's you soak in the cultures described while keeping you informed. Honestly, the descriptions and personal accounts were beautiful and sometimes sobering. The chapter regarding Japan is one of my favorites.

I didn't think I would be satisfied by the end of this book, but honestly it ended as well as probably could. Some trigger warnings that I remember that aren't obvious for this book:
- animal death/disappearance
- descriptions of sex
- drug use
- descriptions of a panic attack
- descriptions of child abuse

Highly recommend read this in print and not e-book! Turning the book upside down to read the crazy parts is part of the experience.
