A really great set of poems that mix modernity and classic fairy tale themes and tropes. A short read but very thought provoking!

So this copy was actually vol. 1-6 and feels like a complete story but I'm definitely going to be looking out for the next issues! A little spoilery if you watch the show but overall very entertaining!

I freakin LOVE my new Kindle! I was using a Fire tablet before and it just wasn't the best for reading exclusively, so my wife let me get this as a mother's day gift to myself! It's super lightweight, holds my ebooks and ALL of my past and present Netgalley ARCs, so I can maybe start working through that tbr! AND I finished off the semester, submitted grades, and am officially on summer break!
😅🙌📚🎉

KathyWheeler I was never happy with a Fire for reading; I love my Kindle Paperwhite though. Glad you got to get a new one and are enjoying it. 😊 3mo

Also, finished reading Holes to my son last week! He loved it and is now asking to find the companion guidebook! We even watched the movie over the weekend. The deal was he had to AR test on the book at school before we could watch the movie. He tested and got a 90% and 6+ AR points! He said it's one of his favorite books now 😊 Always a recommended for young (and young at heart!) readers 📚

Caterina I loved Holes growing up!! The book, the movie, I even owned the CD soundtrack and listened to it constantly. Zero was my first TV crush 😂 So glad he enjoyed it! 4mo

I ordered myself a new Kindle for Mother's day so to get back into the swing of reading now that the semester is winding down (and finals are starting to come in!) I have more free time to get back to my books.

Starting with this one that's been on my TBR for awhile now. I didn't realize how much I missed the Covey family ❤

Happy reading! 📚📚📚

I've been neglecting my books for a few weeks as I've been getting back into the swing of work (and catching up on grading 😅) following my spouse's medical problems. I've also been very dedicated to a large cross stitch pattern for the last two weeks (I'm about halfway done!) so my books have been on hold.

BUT I can't wait to dive into these 2 and the couple others on my Kindle!

SitsWithaBook I loved this book, too. So clever! I think I need to reread it. 5mo
ChristySevern @SitsWithaBook I've read it many times myself and I read it to my son when he was younger. He's 9yo now but he still enjoys a "story" (it's usually a few pages or several short chapters) every night before bed ? 5mo
JazzFeathers I don't think l've ever heard of this. Not the book, not the movie. Though from the pic it seems a 1980s movie? 5mo
ChristySevern @JazzFeathers What?? 😵 Book came out in 98, movie was in 2003 lol I had read the book as a kid several times over and the movie adaptation is really great! One of my favorites! 5mo

This book was crazy from start to finish! Not my usual fare but the plot seemed interesting and, to me, felt somewhere along the lines of a CSI or SVU episode, which worked for me because I love both of those shows 😅 Aside from some of Its ridiculousness, the book keeps your attention and make you want to keep reading just to find out what happens. I give it 🌠🌠🌠🌠

Really relevant and heartbreaking to know so many young people have to deal with these situations. Def a rec for anyone invested in immigration laws and everything currently going on with asylum seekers and issues of immigrants crossing the border into the US.

Living in McAllen Texas I can tell yall there is NO immigration crisis down here and we are NOT a desolate area full of "illegals" and crazy violence. Don't believe the bullshit.

jpmcwisemorgan For the last 20 years I‘ve lived in Southern California, New Mexico, and now Texas and I‘ve never felt like there was an immigration crisis - at least not at the level some people would like to believe. The problems associated with immigration may not be what people think they are. There‘s a lot of misinformation about who is coming, why they‘re coming, and what happens when they get here. 6mo
ChristySevern @jpmcwisemorgan I've lived in deep South Texas (literally grew up 10 minutes away from the border) my whole life and it has never been as bad as some people claim it to be, even now. 6mo
jpmcwisemorgan It‘s really frustrating because most of the people I know who talk about immigration (who aren‘t from a border state) have had little to no interaction with immigrants. They also don‘t want to hear what you have to say because that can‘t possibly be right because it‘s not what they‘ve heard - even though you KNOW. 6mo

SleepyDragon One more from So. Cal here in 100% agreement. There's no crisis or emergency. Immigration itself has been in decline for years. 6mo
Reggie I lived near El Paso for 10 years. Never did I ever feel in danger when I was there. For quite a few years El Paso was #2 on the the top 10 safest cities with populations over 500,000. This border thing is such crap. 6mo
ChristySevern @Reggie Yeah McAllen has been a top 10 safest city for a while now but idk people think it's dangerous here now because of (as one of my students called him) the Cheeto-in-Chief 6mo
Texreader I travel to your lovely town for work periodically. I agree. Load of bull that it‘s a dangerous place because of illegal immigration. 6mo
ChristySevern @Texreader I love living in McAllen 💓 I grew up about 30 minutes away in Weslaco and just felt like it was such a small, boring town so I moved to mcallen 10 years ago and it's been the best decision I've ever made 😊 6mo
Texreader @ChristySevern I‘d love to meet up somewhere next time I‘m there. I‘ve been trying to find bookstores! 6mo
ChristySevern @Texreader we don't have too many other than Barnes and Noble. There is one, a used book store, that came around about a year ago but I have yet to check it out 😕 And that would be lovely! 6mo
Texreader @ChristySevern would you mind sending me your email address? It may be awhile till I‘m back but I‘d love to reach out to you when I‘m there. The last time I did a Litsy meetup was on vacation to London! It was such fun! My email is kamonsen at aol.com 6mo

These comics are very tongue-in-cheek but most of them fell a little flat for me. There were a couple that I literally laughed out loud at, and I really think my wife would enjoy the humor in these comics more than I did, but overall a cute, quick read.
