Lone Wolf: A Novel | Jodi Picoult
Mehso-so

This is the second of Picoult's that I've read. The first was My Sister's Keeper & I loved it. I thought it was complex & devastating, somber & amusing in all the right places. Reading Lone Wolf, which I was STOKED to read, I felt like I could see every twist coming. What seemed clever and surprising about MSK now just feels like a formula the author uses for possibly all her stories and I am not inclined to pursue any of her other ventures.

My Sister's Keeper | Jodi Picoult
Pickpick

Not my typical taste, but recommended by a friend with decent taste. I was expecting a simplistic legal thriller: a conflict, a trial, wrapped up with a dramatic resolution. I was not expecting complex characters with vivid memories, quirks, secrets, and emotions. The writing is elegant and the story is compelling. I never would have picked up this book from the cover, but now I'm eager to read other books from this author.

RadicalReader @Cbreezy I definitely enjoyed the film version so much better than the book 7y
Cbreezy @RadicalReader interesting! I have yet to see the movie, but it is on my list. 7y

1Q84 | Haruki Murakami

I enjoyed this book, but it took about 100 pages before I was really invested. Some of the writing is a bit clunky, but I figure that's to be expected with any translated works. I thought the ending was a little flat. There was such a build up of drama and anticipation and then suddenly all the characters were safe or dealt with and I was left with a lot of questions and no satisfying crescendo.

Borderline | Mishell Baker

A really fun read. Recommended by my husband, who was diagnosed with "borderline, borderline personality" as a teen, this book contained many "holy shit he totally does that" moments. The concept is great, well executed, and a lot of fun. I know I like a book when I'm sad that I have to leave the world contained between its covers. This is one if those books for sure. I'm really looking forward to the next one.

The Princess Diarist | Carrie Fisher

Maybe I'm biased, but I love everything she writes. It feels like listening to your favorite relative tell you stories. She writes every subject with the same emphasis, never taking anything too seriously. There are moments in the book where she talks of her own mortality, casually, as though she's talking about buying a new rug. I don't think she thought death would be coming for her so soon. Have a tissue ready for the acknowledgements.

From the first chapter, I was filled with fire for Victoria.
