Was struggling to decide whether to DNF this or not. 1/3 through the book and it has no "spark" for me. I am interested in finding out about the tribes in India but this book does not seem to delve too deeply into it so will need to hunt for one that does.

LeeRHarry What a lovely cover! Shame inside wasn‘t as good. 2mo
Smarkies @LeeRHarry probably more of a fit issue for me 😅 2mo

I really enjoyed this engrossing book on a cold climate. It's a perfect winter read, especially if you're tucked up nice and warm. ❄️ 📖❄️

Although I still have some reading to do this week, I think I‘ve finished all I‘m going to fit in for #ReadingTheAmericas2023. I completed at least 15 books and experienced more countries through them. 7 of these books are also on the #1001books list. This challenge was a great way to continue to broaden my reading, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

An update on my #ReadingTheAmericas2023 Challenge.

Still got :
5 South American Countries to get
4 Central American Countries (reading a Panama book at the moment)
And quite a few islands!

Thanks to @BarbaraBB @Librarybelle for hosting these great challenges and setting them up on StoryGraph which is a good way to track them.

Librarybelle Great progress! 5mo

Andrew65 @TheSpineView That‘s great as I‘m not very creative with graphics! 5mo

Rita found herself suddenly and unexpectedly divorced and decided a cheap way to live would be to hop from one developing country to another. This felt super exploitative to me and reeked of white privilege. Gross. It was going to be my Nicaragua book, but I‘ve found something else.

Librarybelle I read this years ago, and I agree with you from my recollection of it. I read it for work, so I had to finish it; others on the committee were in love with it. Me, not so much. 5mo

I enjoyed reading about Levison Wood walking across Central America. I recognized many places from when I traveled those countries myself in the 90s (by bus, not walking 😉). The book is more about the traveling than the visited places though.

Airplane read ✈️
My go to comfort read. I adore Karl. I still laugh out loud even after reading several times.
My number one celebrity I'd like to go for a pint with.

I enjoyed this, but it didn‘t quite live up to expectations. I expected more little details about places along the way. For example, we continuously hear how difficult the Darrien Gap is going to be, but they get completely through it in a couple of 20 minute audio chapters. The friendship between Lev and Alberto was fantastic.

BarbaraBB Looking forward to it. I have a copy too. And I loved his book on Arabia (the Nile less so) 8mo

I loved visiting America / NY back in 2019 and #theworldismyoyster made me think of that trip so going with this book I bought at the Strand (short stories by writers who left NY) and the song paired well - probably my favourite Simon & Garfunkel album. #titlesandtunes

Cinfhen What lovely choices ! Sounds perfect 💜Thanks for joining us 😁 9mo
