Mehso-so

Hesitated between a Pick and a So-so. I would not generally recommend it to just any reader in my circle. I enjoyed the historical, enquiry, informative and entertaining sides of it, but there was just to many details. I felt like there was 200 pages too much. The overall research on the evolution of libraries and librarians was the most interesting vs the stories of the LA buildings and fire.

Yoricke_SouthAfrica I really enjoyed this book. Some very interesting characters, strange events, but most of all, all of these led up to a great evolutionary tale of a magnificent library system. Hoping I'll get to visit one of these "mega-libraries" in my lifetime. 4y
Josee.lit.a.lu.et.lira @Yoricke_SouthAfrica I really enjoyed the library tale also. Sending you good vibes, to make it happen 💗 4y
Sargar114 I agree with your review. It was a fascinating read, but wouldn‘t recommend to just anyone. (edited) 4y

How we evolve in 🌀, needing to experience it all over again, through generations. 1873 vs 2020

I am enjoying this historical inquiry genre, pleasantly entertaining and informative.

First time I read about my philosophy about not owning books. Pleasantly validated 😉

Mrs_B I like this! 4y
MsMelissa To each their own, but this is definitely not how I look at books 😂 I have thousands of books in my house, and I‘m at utmost peace when I‘m surrounded by them. I haven‘t read them all yet, and keep buying more, but to me there is nothing better than a home filled with (well organized and ordered) books 📚 4y
MsMelissa Ah, I should add that my husband probably wishes my philosophy was more inline with yours. His favourite thing to say when getting the mail is, “oh look, more books” 😂😂 4y

Josee.lit.a.lu.et.lira @Book_Fiend_Melissa 🤣 We need to handle books the way it answers our needs. Having to many items in my house, books or else, overwhelmes me to a point of paralysis. I should add that , once the kids are out, my partner and I will be moving into a Tiny House. Not the extremely tiny, but TINY. 4y
MsMelissa My husband doesn‘t like it when his TBR pile is too big (which for him is about 50 books), but I would start getting bothered if mine were too small (50 is too small for me) 😂 I seriously feel bad for our movers when we downsize, cause even though we‘ll move to a smaller home I plan on having a bigger home library 😜 4y
Josee.lit.a.lu.et.lira @Book_Fiend_Melissa you crack me up 😆 My partner doesn‘t read and I borrow most books digitally, which is a technology blessing; my library was closed a little over 3 months. If I can‘t find it within my friends who buy, my city‘s network, the provincial national library #BAnQ carries almost anything I look for. I will only buy, after I‘ve exhausted all options or if it‘s a reference book, I will need to use regularly. 4y
MsMelissa I think I might single handedly keep Chapters-Indigo in business with the number of books I buy each year. They had a promo once that was only for their top 10% of Plum rewards members and I was one of them 😬. Good thing books are my only purchasing addiction (oh, and mugs). 4y
Josee.lit.a.lu.et.lira @Book_Fiend_Melissa Really Top 10% ? It‘s a honorable addiction, no need to detox ?? Yé for mugs, they partner so well with reading ? 4y
Lindy I‘m not big on owning books either. I buy a couple every month, mostly to support local authors and small presses, but most of my reading is thanks to the library. After reading a book that I own, I usually find a new home for it and pass it along. 4y
Josee.lit.a.lu.et.lira Yes, I buy provincial sometimes and then give them away or as gifts. I also buy youth books for this fondation. https://www.fondationalphabetisation.org/en/program/the-gift-of-reading/ I like supporting their mission 💗 4y
