#CharactersLikeAlice day 3

Since it appears that #theDodo was a caricature of the author himself, I present what was most likely Kurt Vonnegut‘s alter ego in several of his books: The highly prolific but utterly unheard-of sci-fi author Kilgore Trout.

I hope you'll accept this as a character @LibrarianRyan , if not I'll think again!

Lewis Carroll (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson) is suspected to be the influence behind #thedodo because of his stammer, and thus would accidentally introduce himself as "Do-do-dodgson". (Although this is unsubstantiated).

Bookwomble Well, of course, I had to look up the etymology of dodo! ? Various theories as to the origin of the word, but my favourite is that it derives from the Dutch, "dodaars", meaning "fat arse" or "knot arse", probably referring to the clump of feathers on its rump. First attested in English a couple of hundred years before Dodgson's birth. Perhaps it became a (rather cruel) nickname for Dodgson due to his stammer? 5y
LibrarianRyan I go for it. It‘s the authors representation of himself in the novel. 5y
