The First Rule of Punk | Celia C. Perez
post image

“Been working on a story.”
“What‘s it about?”
“A family of Mexican vampires,” he said, and hissed. “They gotta figure out how to keep a tan and avoid the sun at the same time. But it‘s, like, the 1800‘s, so there are no tanning beds...”
“Like I said before, you‘re weird,” I replied.”

100% would read. 😅🧛🏻‍♂️🧛🏻‍♀️📖
btw, we started watching “What We Do in the Shadows.” Thanks for all of your #spookymovierecs!

EKonrad I love that show!! 5y
Kimberlone Loved the movie and loved the show! Can‘t wait for season 2 5y

BONUS POINTS if horror is:
a) absent
b) mixed with comedy
c) more atmospheric than horrific
& potentially,
d) expressive of feminist rage

🖤 I‘ll go first:

•Beetlejuice
•Practical Magic
•An American Werewolf in London
•Rosemary‘s Baby
•Lizzie
•Shaun of the Dead
•Wolfcop
•Ghostbusters
•The Babysitter
•Buffy the Vampire Slayer (though I prefer the show)
•The Lost Boys
•Hocus Pocus
•Casper (because I grew up in the 90‘s)

Kimberlone What We Do in the Shadows is a new favorite of mine! 5y
CodyWilcox • Hocus Pocus • Nightmare Before Christmas (also a Christmas fav) • Darkness Falls • What Lies Beneath. I usually can‘t do much more scary than those. I‘m a big scaredy cat and am ok with that. 5y
monalyisha @CodyWilcox I‘m embarrassed that I forgot Hocus Pocus! 😳 Editing right now. (Also, for some reason, my BFF‘s fam & I always watched The Nightmare Before Christmas on Thanksgiving, so it will forever be associated with that particular holiday in my mind.) Thanks for the suggestions! (edited) 5y

Chrissyreadit Yes! I‘m trying to figure out some movies to watch and have been struggling! I had a few good responses but I needed more! 5y
monalyisha @Chrissyreadit Same! 🦇✨ I wouldn‘t say that I‘m a “baby,” but I don‘t like being upset/disturbed just because. I‘m more into the mood & the spirit of Halloween (otherworldliness, crumbling Victorian houses, magic, folklore, — monsters, to some extent) than I am the gore & psychological trauma aspect. 5y
Chrissyreadit @monalyisha yes! That sounds like what I‘m looking for. 🖤🖤🖤 5y
cathipink We love the live action Addams Family movies (from the 90s)🙂 I'll try to reflect and see if I can think of some more. 5y
monalyisha @cathipink Yes! All Christina Ricci all the time. 🖤 5y
Clare-Dragonfly The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Addams Family movies, Hocus Pocus, Beetlejuice, The Others 5y
monalyisha @ChrissyReadIt I‘ve gotten a million recs on Facebook: A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night; You‘re Next; Life After Beth; Trick R Treat; The Orphanage (by Guillermo del Toro); What We Do in the Shadows; Cabin in the Woods; Sleepaway Camp; Swamp Thing; Bubba Ho-Tep; Night of the Comet; The People Under the Stairs; The Monster Squad; The Stuff; The Fog (1980); C.H.U.D.; Dead Heat; The Thing; Tucker & Dale vs. Evil; Housebound. 5y
monalyisha @ChrissyReadIt I‘ve seen some of them but I‘m including them in case they help you! A friend also suggested The Exorcism of Emily Rose but said it wasn‘t any of the things I asked for. 😅 He used the words “haunting” & “beautiful”, though, so I might try it, regardless. 5y
Novel_Crawler Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Sweeney Todd. Sleepy Hallow. Nightmare on Elm Street (the original not the following movies). And I really liked The Witch and The Ritual on Netflix. 5y
