Desegregation isn‘t about Black people giving up their institutions
Robert Coles' 'The Story of Ruby Bridges' recounts the courageous journey of a young girl who played a pivotal role in desegregating schools. This powerful narrative introduces students to the civil rights movement and the significance of equality. This book is a valuable resource for discussions on civil rights, empathy, and the impact of individuals on societal change
I really enjoyed this poem as it discussed the harsh realities of social injustices. In addition, the poem was beautifully illustrated and as it expressed the freedoms the boy would like to experience in his life.
That Is My Dream!: A Picture Book of Langston Hughes's Dream Variation, is a poem about the dream of a world free of discrimination and racial prejudice. It follows an African-American boy through the course of his day as the harsh reality of segregation and racial prejudice comes into vivid focus. But the boy dreams of a different life—one full of freedom, hope, and wild possibility, where he can fling his arms wide in the face of the sun.
