Pickpick

An excellent feminist and left-wing critique of prostitution and pornography. The contributions from feminist activists and survivors accurately and decisively uncover the brutality, racism and misogyny inherent to the sexualised objectification and torture of women in prostitution and pornography. This book is essential reading for anyone who believes these capitalist industries are empowering for women and girls.

What I‘ve loved about Mary Daly‘s philosophy the way she understands Memory, how western society is premised on forgetting, forgetting that things ever were other than they now are. Once we lived in relation with our ancestors (Memory), and in relation with our forebears (Vision). Western civilisation forecloses these relations through forced forgetting, and it sets up a culture of coercion that is at odds with our deep need for tender intimacy

Weaponxgirl I would agree. I find it can be scary to think about how vulnerable we all can be. Some people understandably don‘t want to think or talk about it and disrupt their sense of self and security. 3w
WomanistBibliophile @Weaponxgirl sadly true how much people prefer denial over reckoning with the reality of our vulnerability. I feel every day this is what is happening with environmental destruction as well. And the more denialism the greater the threat to us grows 3w

Read this for a gender class wanting to know more about how women are coerced into beauty practices everyday that hurt us... but this author is transphobic. For a lesbian, she has no empathy for the oppression of anyone different from her. As Audre Lorde said, "There is no hierarchy of oppressions" When trans women are hurt, all women are hurt. When anyone in the LGBT community is oppressed, we are all oppressed. Wildly offensive. Don't read.

SOOTHSAYER: a woman who Dares to counter the patriarchal deadly sin of deception; Courageous Truth-sayer

//

Women‘s liberationists exposing the patriarchal deceits, the cultural gaslighting, will be called many woman-shaming names by a misogynist; we womanists and feminists will celebrate each woman brave enough to speak truth to power and call her SOOTHSAYER

I want you to think about those who have been hurt for the fun, the entertainment, the so-called speech of others; those who have been hurt for profit, for the financial benefit of pimps & entrepreneurs. I want you to remember the perpetrator & to remember the victims: not just tonight but tomorrow & the next day. I want you to find a way to include them in what you do, how you think, how you act, what you care about, what your life means to you.

Women and Girls Not For Sale! Anti-capitalist comrades, fellow feminists, liberation seekers, Resist! Consent is not for sale. Sex is not a commodity. Women‘s bodies are not objects, nor is the purpose of a woman to service the sexualised cravings of men. Commercialisation is always an exploitation. Why let the capitalists take advantage of the most vulnerable, most intimate, that which should be most autonomous?
