#hpchapteraday First of all, can I just express just how much I detest & loathe Umbridge! She has to be one of the most hated characters ever conceived in literature. The theme of #practicevstheory is one small illustration of what is wrong with her as teacher-although it doesn't even compare with her abuse, prejudice, corruption...have I mentioned just how much I detest & loathe her? To me, she is the Trump of the wizarding world 😡😡😡

Redjewel_7734 Con't...but to say just a bit on the theme-I think it highlights just how important it is to be active & involved in the educational system in order to make sure our next generations are successful because while theory is important, without hands on practice to teach & inspire our kids we'll keep falling behind. Just look how far all the practical application of what they've learned takes the Weasley twins 😊 7y
Ubookquitous Umbridge is one of the greatest villains ever... Practically Shakespearean! 7y
mllemay Seriously, I don't think I have ever hated a character more than I hate Umbridge. It's physically painful to read. 7y

Redjewel_7734 @Ubookquitous I think what makes her an ultimate villain i s that we can recognize in her the real life villains of everyday life whereas someone like Voldemort is evil but not as rooted in the evil we see every day. Everyone knows an Umbridge while Voldemort, while a great fictional villain, remains fictional. 7y
Redjewel_7734 @mllemay I know, right! I get so very agitated every time I read this book because of my utter loathing of Umbridge. While I love OOP it is probably the hardest book as a whole for me to read. I could definitely think of some lines to make her write with her own quill 😖 7y
mllemay @Redjewel_7734 same for me! I had honestly forgotten just how dark and intense this book is right from the start. There are so many chapters that are hard to read!! It's making it slightly easier to read only one chapter a day though, and to share my despair and hatred with a group lol 7y
Redjewel_7734 @mllemay we can think of it as one more thing to help us find that unity the Sorting Hat sang about...we'll unify in our loathing of Umbridge & her ilk 😂 7y
mllemay @Redjewel_7734 yes, totally 😂😂👍🏻 7y
Ubookquitous @Redjewel_7734 yes... She is every 'bad' teacher we may have had in school... Or unfair adult, or boss. When I first read HPOOTP I visualized her as the third grade teacher I had who used to drag me by my ear and made me write sentences on the board such as I will study for my tests" 7y

There is arguably no character more reviled in children's fiction than this woman.
