This non-fiction book has real life text to world connections. Last week, NPR highlighted the ecosystem imbalances of kelp forests with otters and sea urchins. A fantastic picture book to accompany a science lesson. I envision a shared or partner read for maximum comprehension.

ToddSalerno This book would be a great jumping off point into an ecology science lesson. Introducing the content first through a picture book could help inspire a deeper understanding.

First off the illustrations in this book are breathtaking. They are absolutely gorgeous. The story tells how the cycle of life changes if an element, in this case sea otters are taken away. Along with the story there are multiple factoids that are relevant and interesting. This would be a great book to talk about life cycles, hunting, and even endangered species.

LibrarianRyan @inthegreensandblues it‘s a picture book so you could read it aloud as early as 3. But for them to read themselves I‘d say 3rd grade. 4y
