Etiquette & Espionage | Gail Carriger

Mehso-so

2.5/5⭐ It had some of the quirky charm I expect of Carriger, & I enjoyed seeing some of the Parasol Protectorate characters younger. But Sophronia was annoyingly perfect: almost always came up with the ideas, made the connections, saved the day. It would have made much more sense, been more rewarding for others to share the spotlight, for Sophronia to fail & learn along the way. Race issues handled poorly. #projectsams #projecttbr #mateathon

2/5 ⭐. I appreciate the research that was clearly put into this book. For me, though, there was no character development, nothing learned as the book progressed. I knew going in that the content wouldn't be upbeat, but there was no other element that appealed to me to make finishing the book worthwhile. #projectsams #projecttbr #mateathon

The Kiss Quotient | Helen Hoang

Pickpick

4/5 ⭐. Finally, a romance with a male lead who isn't a giant overbearing boundary-crossing jerk! This was cute with likeable characters and a sweet romantic buildup that focused very heavily on consent and taking your own time. At the very end I didn't like how Michael teetered a teensy bit toward some questionable persistence, but it worked out, they communicated, and I will definitely be reading the next book. #projectnew #mateathon
