This TL story (folklore) that won the Coretta Scott King & Caldecott award. This story is about two young men who go on a journey to find this girl that one of them fell in love with. When all three are united, their journey back to town is full of twist and turns* caused by 3 zombie witches and 1 mean uncle) that test the powers of true friendship. This would be a book for a DR where there are many characters that children can play.

Estradan http://readingtokids.org/Books/BookView.php?pag=4&bookID=00000319 this resources offers an art activity where students can do a black crayon scratch drawing to replicate the illustrations from the book. These drawings could also be incorporated into the DR. This aligns with UDL 5.2 using multiple tools for construction and composition. It also aligns with ESOL strategy 30, encouraging as aids to identify and see relationships. #ucflae3414su19 5y

DrSpalding I am so happy you read this book and of course I love your image! #shibainu #hiro #finn ❤️🐕 this book won the Caldecott for the beautiful images… Scratchboard technique! I had students create images just like the illustrator in my classroom. This is a Caribbean folk tale and in third grade you must teach about the Caribbean islands. This is a perfect read aloud during that social studies unit. 5y
