This book would be great when teaching about social justice. This book acts as a window into the inequities black people faced in our country just decades ago. A significant theme in this book is how determination can get you anywhere.

I finished this one up at the end of August and forgot to post. It was good, but I didn‘t love it. The Summer After the War really worked for me, but neither this one nor Major Pettigrew's Last Stand have lived up to my first experience with Simonson's writing. This was my August #Bookspin @TheAromaofBooks

willaful Funny, I felt completely the opposite on all three. 😄 2mo

This book could be used to discuss the importance of freedom and respecting nature. We could discuss these aspects by looking at the valuable lessons the boy learned from the hawk. Then, we can discuss how these messages connect to the students' lives.

Hawk, I'm Your Brother is a traditional literature book by Byrd Baylor published in 1977. This book is a folktale and a Caldecott Honor recipient. It fits in this category because it tells the tale of a boy who dreams of flying and feels a deep spiritual connection with a hawk. This book blends realistic elements with mythical/symbolic themes.
