Just finished this 4-book historical fiction series about the Swedish immigrant experience to the U.S. If you have ancestors who came to America from Sweden in the mid-1800s and settled in the upper Midwest, this is their story. And it‘s an absorbing one. The author did a great deal of research to make sure the details are historically accurate. Definitely recommend.

EvieBee This sounds great! I‘m a fan of Cather‘s immigrant trilogy so this sounds fab. 2y
Amiable @EvieBee My great-grandparents came from Sweden in the 1920s and settled near NYC, so their experience was different. But my husband's ancestors followed the actual path depicted in the books -- same time period, made their ways to Minnesota to carve out farmland, etc. It felt like I was reading a diary of his family! Very good. (edited) 2y

Book 2 in “The Emigrants” series about a Swedish family‘s journey from their homeland to America in 1850. This volume starts with their arrival in NYC and details their journey to Minnesota Territory and the first year as they struggle to make a home and a working farm. Excellent read.

"We have suffered from the #emigrants settling among us from different parts of the #Highlands, but more from merchants and traders from England and the North of #Scotland. The ignorance and superstition of the former have not done us so much evil, as the avarice, the luxury, the show, and the glittering toys of the latter."
