I'm getting back into the #litsylove groove. Thank you to this wonderful group for being patient with my silence (despite my best intentions) in 2023. I'm excited to be back to writing letters.

(Not pictured is the puppy I managed to distract with a chew long enough to write four cards.)

🎧 Finished off the series with a bang. My favorite of the 3 & the 1st book was my 2nd favorite.

It was sad. It was shocking. It was kind of funny that Cicero mentioned multiple times that he was SO old at 60 that it was ok if he died, then married someone 1/3 his age )for her money) & then run away from her.

Just so many little snippets of humor, sadness, still a lot of politics, Caesar …

The trilogy is a minimum 4.5⭐️ stars.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️3/4

A Cicero manuscript created in 1446 at an exhibit I stumbled upon in an Indianapolis building. The collection was presented by the Remnant Trust, a group dedicated to collecting manuscripts, first editions, and early works dealing with topics of individual liberty and human dignity. So many fascinating pieces, including some from Frederick Douglass, John Locke, Mary Shelley, and more!

janeycanuck How serendipitous! Sounds wonderful ❤️ 14mo

MWA HAHAHAHAHA … sigh … I suppose I should have chosen something a little more challenging. How is everyone doing with their challenges?

Smrloomis You could always just edit it and increase the number. That‘s what I do but I‘m weird that way! 1y
Bklover I‘m at 10/75. You did great!! 1y
kaysworld1 What I get close to my target I add 5 more on, see what I can get too. 1y

Twainy @Smrloomis I wish you could have a second challenge like a 2nd shelf. My second challenge would be for books over 500 pages or total pages … 1y
Twainy @Bklover you are right on track! You set up a good challenge 😁 1y
Twainy @kaysworld1 I think I did something similar a few years ago. My current goal is 1 a day. I think that‘s more than many people read so not meeting that challenge isn‘t such a bad thing so I chose a challenge that was something I‘d think was a good challenge in general. 😁 1y
fredamans 👏 👏 👏 1y
julesG Congratulations! 1y
Reggie Lolololol you are amazing!!! 1y
Twainy @fredamans @julesg thank you, you‘re too kind! 🤗🤗 1y
Twainy @reggie 😆 you are very funny! This years secret goal … 365. I have no idea why I put the standard 52. I‘m sure someone at GR is rolling their eyes 😆 1y

🎧 Book 2. This felt like a lot more politic centered.some serious death/murder/capitol punishment. I enjoyed it enough to read on!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

1 I enjoy all Historical fiction, from a whole range of time frames.I tend to read a lot ofRoman and Roman BritainFiction, some which is more than 2000 years old,but also some that isn‘t.

2.I recommend any work by Ben Kane, but especially the Forgotten Legion Trilogy, and the tagged book, which is the first of a Trilogy based on Cicero born 3rd January 106 BCE.

Vansa I was going to recommend this Robert Harris trilogy too! Absolutely loved it. We saw the dramatisation by the RSC, which was very powerful. 2y

Here was my 2nd book in #MayMadness @Andrew65 + really enjoyable. A bk about how cicero emerges as the great political figure in the Roman Republic. It rds like a thriller + is v readable + extremely interesting, a lot of intrigue bringing the senate to life.
I'll rd later + raise a toast to a lovely lady jenny @ReadingEnvy after the horrible news this wk. I listened to her for yrs + was lucky to talk to her virtually on the show in 2020. V v sad

Cathythoughts I‘m so shocked and sad to hear this news of Jenny. I often listened to her podcasts and followed her here and on Instagram. Such a lovely person 💔 2y
TrishB I didn‘t know this news 💔 so sad @Cathythoughts 2y
andrew61 @Cathythoughts @TrishB Sorry that I've dropped that tonight Cathy and Trish, I only saw it on a thread on Wednesday. It seems a bit unreal as I didn't know jenny but she was such a lovely personality on her podcast so I felt as if I did. There is a thread on good reads. There is very little on line other than a short bit from her university. Sorry again, take care. 2y

#litsylove mail going out tomorrow! I sincerely apologize to all for the delay in my response. April was quite the month. Luckily, life has calmed down in May.

Happy reading!
