#PoetryMatters Day 2: #Sky
#OnThisDay in 1889 Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral was born Lucila Godoy Alcayaga. In 1945, Mistral became the first Latin American to win the Nobel Prize in Literature "for her lyric poetry which, inspired by powerful emotions, has made her name a symbol of the idealistic aspirations of the entire Latin American world". Several of her works have been translated into English by such luminaries as Langston Hughes and Ursula K. LeGuin. #HistoryGetsLIT

#NutsInMay #readathon
I‘m definitely reading more, and I‘m excited that I‘ve finally finished this book that I started reading last July! :)
Currently reading the tagged book. I‘m also getting ready to start Giant Days Vol. 10 to up my page count for the day. Currently on page 494/800 for the #JubilantJuly #readathon hosted by @Andrew65 . :)
[Photo: Sam Falk/NYT/Getty Images] Neruda‘s Elemental Odes look deeply and luminously at ordinary, everyday things—his suit, a salt shaker, an artichoke, a rooster. The odes are celebratory, clever, wry at times, and written in plain language. For a while now, I have begun each day reading a couple of these odes with my morning coffee. It‘s a practice I can highly recommend! #ReadingAroundTheWorld #Chile
"For once on the face of the earth,
let's not speak in any language;
let's stop for one second,
and not move our arms so much"
And let's read some Neruda as a cure for #restlessness. Couldn't fit the whole poem in the image but it's available here https://www.brainpickings.org/2015/05/28/keeping-quiet-sylvia-boorstein-reads-pa...
#PoetryMatters @LazyDays
This year, so far— I‘ve realized that I‘m on the Autism spectrum at about the Aspergers level. It‘s difficult to get a diagnosis for that in the US since it has been lumped into the spectrum in the recent DSM-V. Realizing that this is who I am has explained a lot, and I‘ve felt like I was given a key to who I am and why my mind works the way it does. Also this year, I‘ve fallen in love. Yesterday, I chose my wedding ring set. Here is a pic!! 💜💕
My great aunts used to read me Mistral‘s poems in Spanish. It‘s about time I revisit them.
