A Chair for My Mother | Vera B. Williams

This book is a fiction Caldecott honor book. It is about a family that lost everything in a fire and had to move to start all over again. Generous family members and friends gave them many household objects, but they really wanted a big soft chair. The mother brought home the biggest jar she could find and they all saved and put coins until the jar until it was full, once it was they went and bought the chair. #ucflae3414su19

DeannaP An E.D strategy I would use with this book would be to “optimize relevance, value, and authenticity‘” since some students may have gone through a similar circumstance like this before. An ESOL strategy I would use would be to “integrate speaking, listening, reading, and writing activities” since they would be building and writing about their dream chair after reading the book. 1mo

DrSpalding Much better resource here and nice job aligning universal design principles and English learner strategies. 2w

Day 20 of #30junebooks is #picturebook! I love this book so much. I remember it from Reading Rainbow when I was a kid. I‘ve read it to my 5yo several times lately, and I get choked up every. single. time. Which she doesn‘t understand at all. 😂🤷🏼‍♀️

This book is so sweet! It melts my heart! It‘s about a girl, her mom and grandmother. Their house burned down and they lost all their furniture. This made them dream of a chair they wanted as they saved up tbeir change in a jar to buy one. The chair symbolizes their love for each other and the time they enjoy spending together in their chair. The illusions were good and you could tell the point of view is from the girl/child‘s perspective.
