Finding Baba Yaga | Jane Yolen
post image
Pickpick

“Stories retold are stories remade.“ Jane Yolen takes the characters of the Baba Yaga story, creates a modern family, and tells the story in verse. It's a journey to find one's own voice, strength, and truth. It is beautiful. Magical. And this will definitely be one that I read again and again. So glad I found this one at #readercon last week!

The Glass Town Game | Catherynne M. Valente

I went to #readercon with a couple of friends today. We‘re in a book club together — theoretically (we meet “sporadically” but have been friends for over 15 years). We attended panels about womanhood, disability, mental health, & Otherness in speculative fiction. I listened to Catherynne Valente read one of her brilliant short stories; then, she signed a book for me. Afterwards, we hit up the beach. What a goddamn fantastic day. 🥰💖📖📚🌊☀️

Is anyone going to #ReaderCon in Boston this coming weekend? I don‘t really have the time but this program is seriously tempting me.

Most anticipated events:
*Readings by CAT VALENTE (😍) & Austin Grossman
*The Shirley Jackson Awards
*”The Horrors of Being Female”
*”Renovating the Haunted House”
*”Carrying the Albatross” (depictions of mental health in fiction)
*”Picture Book Storytime for All Ages”

(Other talks I‘d love to see conflict 😭)

Clare-Dragonfly Wow, those all sound amazing. 5y
monalyisha @Clare-Dragonfly Right?! Titles of other talks that I wish didn‘t bump up against the ones above are: “Cultural Hauntings and African-American History”, “Am I Allowed?: Representation, Appropriation, and Anxiety”, “Marginalized People Destroy History”, “The Peril of Being Disbelieved” (which has to do with womanhood), & “Found Family in SF.” I want to yell at the person responsible for scheduling the time slots. 😆 But also I want to GO! 5y
