Discussion of Chapters 11 - 14

Question 5 of 5

JacqMac I think we might end up with some happy endings. Thanks to Vonni. (edited) 5y
EadieB I agree that there is still time in the book for some new directions on these relationships. 5y
CarolynM I hope David only goes back to his parents to show he loves them, not to do what they want. But I always have a very negative reaction about parents who want to make decisions for their adult offspring. 5y

Question 4 of 5

JacqMac I think it frustrated her to see them making what she believed were mistakes. I think she has regrets about her own mistakes and she wants them to fix their relationships while they still can. 5y
EadieB I agree with JacqMac that she is losing patience with their problems and she wants to help them fix their mistakes before it is too late. 5y
CarolynM What @JacqMac said. Also maybe a bit of frustration at feeling they weren't taking her earlier suggestions seriously. 5y
cobwebmoth I agree. 5y
Andrew65 Totally agree too @JacqMac 5y

Question 3 of 5

JacqMac Vonnie‘s story is fascinating enough to be a book of it‘s own. I find it interesting that the town accepted her in the end. 5y
EadieB I agree that Vonnie's story could be its own book. Her husband Stefan was not very nice to her. I like how all the people on the island protect Vonni's story. 5y
CarolynM I agree with @JacqMac @EadieB - this could have been a whole book. Actually, I think all the stories could have been. I have felt through the other Binchy books I've read with you that she is great at coming up with ideas but doesn't seem to want to do the work to flesh them out into fully realised characters and stories so she throws them all into a mash up. The result is books that are entertaining but, for me at least, not very satisfying. 5y
cobwebmoth She's an interesting character. It was nice to finally learn her story, but I found it very sad. 5y
Andrew65 I agree @cobwebmoth A very sad story and annoying at the same time. This could easily have been a series of books, with this as the final one. Maeve does sometimes leave you a bit unsatisfied. @CarolynM @JacqMac @EadieB 5y

Question 2 of 5

JacqMac It‘s weird. I think she thinks she loves him, but I don‘t think she really does. I also think he‘s just telling her what he thinks she wants to hear. 5y
EadieB I agree with @JacqMac that Dieter and Elsa's relationship is a dead end as it doesn't seem like real love to me either. (edited) 5y
CarolynM I don't think there's really enough information to make a judgement. I'd like to know how the arrangement started and what each of them was thinking then. If she does go back I don't think it's likely to last very long. (edited) 5y
cobwebmoth It doesn't strike me as a very healthy relationship. I think that she would be happier in the future without him. 5y
Andrew65 Think I agree with @JacqMac and @EadieB. I don‘t think deep down even she thinks she loves him, or that he loves her - more the thought of her. 5y

Question 1 of 5

JacqMac I don‘t think so. Shane is so selfish. 5y
EadieB No I don't think selfish Shane was ever really interested in Fiona. 5y
CarolynM Not in a million years. He was only interested in what Fiona would do for him, he wouldn't have crossed the street for her, let alone travel back to the island. 5y
cobwebmoth No. He only cared about himself. 5y
Andrew65 Was never going to go back for her. 5y

Question 4 of 4

EadieB I like David a lot. I think his patience has caused him to be more successful then Vonni. 5y
JacqMac Yep @EadieB Some people are just calming to others. And I wish he‘d come teach my kids to drive. It‘s nerve wracking! lol 5y
cobwebmoth I agree, David is more patient. He seems like a really caring person. 5y

Question 3 of 4

EadieB I think the group is having a lot of personal problems and they have chosen to disclose these problems to one another and this has caused them to become closer with each other. 5y
JacqMac I think tragedy brings people together quickly. They went through something together. It made a bond. 5y
Tove_Reads Sometimes these bonds just happen. Might be a short term thing, because they found the people they needed right now. 5y
cobwebmoth @JacqMac I agree. 5y

Question 2 of 4

EadieB I don't think Thomas should have moved away from this situation. He is still Bill's father and needs to be involved in Bill's life. 5y
JacqMac I agree with @EadieB His son wants him and needs him. All he‘s doing is making the poor kid feel rejected. He should be on the next flight home. 5y
Tove_Reads I guess he‘s confused himself and thinks that people would feel differently about him now. Bill still needs his father. 5y
cobwebmoth I think he's being selfish. He feels left out, but he's just making things worse by running away from the situation. He should be there for his son. 5y

Discussion of Chapters 7 - 10

Question 1 of 4

EadieB I don't think she should have slept with Dieter if she was going to end it with him. I think Dieter should have told her about his child by another woman when he planned to have a relationship with him. I think Elsa is afraid to trust him at this point. 5y
JacqMac No. What a messed up relationship. There is no honesty and trust. She should have just walked away. 5y
Tove_Reads Such a typical relationship in a Binchy book 😂 answer: no. 5y
cobwebmoth I don't understand why she felt the need to sleep with him one last time. I agree that she should have walked away. 5y
