The Disciples of Cthulhu | Edward P. Berglund

Mehso-so

(1976) It's a collection of nine stories by different authors, inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's weird stories about ancient gods and monsters. It's a bit of a disappointment: a few stories are duds, and even the ones I liked suffer from mannered prose that I assume was intended to imitate Lovecraft's. Still the stories by Brian Lumley, Ramsey Campbell, and Walter DeBill made it worthwhile.

This was my #BookSpin for April.

charl08 Those look well read! 2y
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 2y

Well, it's another #BookSpin and #DoubleSpin and another pairing of two very different books. I'm not sure what a mashup would look like, but I wouldn't be surprised if Tim Powers already had a treatment sitting in a notebook somewhere.

Thanks for doing this again, @TheAromaofBooks

TheAromaofBooks Yay!! Good luck!! 2y
MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm Lol, I guess if I had just checked your feed I wouldn‘t have had to ask the question on your other post. 🤦‍♀️🤣 2y
swynn @MegaWhoppingCosmicBookwyrm No worries. Nice to know others are watching! 😄 2y

#BookCoverChallenge
Day 176.
Here I will note 365 books (or as many as I will have before I get tired) that have shaped my taste in literature. No explanations, no reviews. Just the cover of the book.
I do not challenge anyone. You are all welcome to take part.

Pickpick

This was an absolute pleasure to listen to. I greatly enjoyed the references to Neil Gaiman (another lover of mythology) and Percy Jackson (who brought many to mythology for the first time), really turning this into a version of these myths for everyone. The etymological tidbits throughout are good fun. I quite enjoyed Fry‘s appendices at the end, adding a little nonfiction to the mix.

The perfect example of alliteration.

Another etymological golden nugget. These words don‘t necessarily feel similar in modern English.

Ericalambbrown I loved all the etymology notes in this book! 3y
GingerAntics @Ericalambbrown They really are great!!! 3y
Ericalambbrown @GingerAntics and Mr Fry is just like “and by the way, here‘s a nerdy tidbit. . . “ 😂🤣 I just loved his aside-type delivery. 3y
GingerAntics @Ericalambbrown the way he tells these stories is perfect!!! I‘m so glad the audiobook went on sale all those months ago. 3y

I‘m rather late to this particular party, but this seems like as good a time to listen to this as any.
