Pickpick

“You shouldn‘t be here.”
“Why?”
“Because you make me ravenous.”
⚔️
It‘s a pick, but the first 100 pages made me contemplate DNFing- I couldn‘t keep track of where we were going, who we were going with & if we liked eachother. But it picked up, it was kind of fun but doesn‘t compare to the core Crowns of Nyaxia series. I do commend Broadbent on telling stories from this world from different angles & expansive worldbuilding.

This is a low pick for me and that‘s disappointing. I love this series and I‘ve loved all of the other books so far - some of my favorite reads of the past year. This one took forever for the story to gain traction. Most of the first half was a slog. It finally picked up and became more engaging but it‘s all a little too late. I wanted more and I wanted a little less predictability.

robinb It‘s a shame when a series book doesn‘t measure up to its predecessors (and frustrating). Been there, read that. 😂😔 8mo
DGRachel @robinb it‘s technically a standalone set in the same world, and I think part of the problem is that it‘s an older book that‘s just been trad published after originally being self-published. No shade on self-publishing, I just think her writing skill has gotten better. I still have high hopes for Book 4 of the series. 8mo
robinb I haven‘t read her before but recently bought this one. So these two are set in the same world? I also saw where this series is recommended for those who like The Bridge Kingdom series…which would be me. 😊🙋🏻‍♀️ 8mo
DGRachel @robinb Yes. Serpent is book 1 of the first duology. This one is technically book 2.5 if you‘re reading in author‘s order. I loved Serpent and the one that followed. They are the first Romantasy series by any author that I‘ve enjoyed. I will have to check out the Bridge Kingdom series! 8mo
robinb I recommend the Bridge series. I‘ve read the first two and the 5th came out last week so I‘m a bit behind. Great world building. 8mo

Mehso-so

Nyaxia story book 2.5 (I think I‘ve heard). While there were great moments, it didn‘t blow me away. The end twist definitely had me going though. These characters fell flat; mainly, I think, because I wanted more understanding in their shared trauma. it was There. There just wasn‘t any amount of time for them to talk, just feel it out and/or ignore it. Same with closing discussion; should have talked after all “that” occurred. Needed bit more

Sylina is charged by her order to become the seer for the vampire conquering their lands in order to dispatch him. After uncovering truths of both her organization and Atrius, the vampire, she is torn between following her goddess or the man she‘s come to know as more than a cold blooded conqueror. Loved this novella! Really liking this author and her characters!

For me this was a perfect, quick standalone romantasy. I am very glad that for once the FMC is attempting to betray the love interest.

I enjoyed the author's writing and storytelling as usual. The story is action-driven, the characters have sufficient depth and grow, the slow burn romance made my heart squeeze, there was a perfect amount of spice and the scenes were sensually written.

Although predictable, this was still pretty good. A seer tasked with getting close to the vampire conqueror to kill him. But of course learns that he‘s really not the bad guy in the story. Lots of Goddesses, battles and of course secrets and betrayals galore! Some spice 🌶️🌶️ and ⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars.
