Zulay‘s difficulty facing learning how to use her cane ahead of the field day marathon is conveyed thoughtfully. I enjoyed the art style and overall pace of this book. #PictureBook #DisabilitiesRep

Six Dots: A Story of Young Louis Braille was written by Jen Bryant. This book shares the story of Louis Braille and how he lost his sight and then invented an alphabet. His invention gave blind kids all over the world a new way to navigate the world. This book is so inspiring!

#ConflictedWorlds Day 4: #PersonVsDisability - In just a few pages, both author and illustrator captured the essence of Helen‘s travails and triumphs from childhood to old age, her disappointments and her steadfastness. I was able to catch a glimpse of her refreshing wit while she performed on stage, as well as marveled at her determined and willful spirit through her many advocacies. I borrowed this for my unit on Helen Keller, but it came in a bit late. Oh well still a good read for young readers.

This book was inspiring and amazing. It was published in 2012, and is a biography/true story of the life of Helen Keller. Although one may know some general facts about Helen Keller upon hearing her name, this book elaborates on this amazing woman's life including the struggles and successes of her life.
This book had beautiful and almost true to life illustrations. By this meaning that many of them looked as though they were photographs.

em_lemo Something that stuck out to me in this book was,
“She loved the mockingbird song and the sweet smell of climbing roses.“
I liked this because this is describing the life of Helen when she was still in her infancy years. I loved how descriptive the book was throughout, and it made me think that maybe the purpose of being so detailed throughout the book would be to allow those who may not be able to see to imagine and experience these ideas.

Annie and Helen | Deborah Hopkinson

Annie and Helen by Deborah Hopkinson and Raul Colón is a B story. It shares the wonderful relationship of Helen Keller and her teacher Annie Sullivan. This would be a great AS story because Hopkinson is an amazing author that has written quality books. I think a great resource to pair with this book is an informational article like #ucflae3414f19

cassandram https://www.perkins.org/history/people/anne-sullivan?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2-2JotPj5.... It also would be great to include clips from the movie miracle worker to show the relationship between Annie and Helen. The ESOL strategy I would be applying is 28 by providing a biography of significant women. And the UDL strategy would be 3.1 by supplying background knowledge of the two through the other articles. 4y
YvetteE A great choice for your biography! 4y
Tinks Love the bond that the teacher and student have with one another. Nice post and cute picture. 4y
Alexush So cute! I‘ve been taking ASL and i absolutely love it. 4y
DrSpalding This is an excellent choice for a biography and your image is creative! Many of my students have taken ASL and it could come in handy in future classrooms. 4y

I found a used bookstore in Victoria, Texas boasting more than 45,000 books! Loved it and its exchange policy! I took in five books and got $10 credit off my purchase of four books (which were already half off). This makes it so much nicer to endure the long drives here for work (plus the audiobooks I listen to along the way).

GingerAntics That is some awesome incentive. 5y
cathysaid Truth. Audiobooks help me get through my ridiculous commute in Atlanta. And by ridiculous I mean only TEN MILES that take 45 minutes. 🙄 However, I‘ve found I need books that don‘t need careful focus. You? 5y
Kammbia1 I'm in San Antonio. I will have to make the drive to Victoria to check out this bookstore!. 5y

Bookzombie I hope you aren't having to make this trip daily. Even with all that lovely audiobook time, it would be exhausting. ♥ 5y
Texreader @Bookzombie That would be bad! Right now I‘m averaging once a week but that should decrease 5y
Texreader @GingerAntics Apparently I got even more credit but since I handed them my books when I went to pay, they said they‘d credit me the remainder for next time. Whoa! More than $2 a book incentive!! 5y
Texreader @cathysaid If I really get into the audiobook then I get very focused. If I‘m not focused I know it‘s not a great audiobook for me. I couldn‘t deal with that kind of commute without audiobooks!! 5y
Texreader @Kammbia1 I‘m in San Antonio too! I‘d go down there if you have other reasons to go, or at least pass through there to the coast for example! If you go, take a bunch of books to trade in! 5y
GingerAntics Wow. This sounds like the greatest book store ever!!! 5y
Kammbia1 @Texreader Will do! 5y
