If you're looking for a novel that combines the best elements of The Most Dangerous Game and 1984, check out The Dying Game. You can't trust any of the characters and no situation is quite as it seems. But the creepiest part of the book is that you're never sure what the characters know, and there's a good chance that someone is always watching/controlling them. The mystery builds at a steady pace and the ending was almost a surprise.
