Morbid Curiosities
Morbid Curiosities: Collections of the Uncommon and the Bizarre | Paul Gambino
4 posts | 1 read | 6 to read
Morbid Curiosities is an insight into the strange world of collectors of the macabre. Centred on 15 collections, with extensive interviews with each collector and specially shot imagery detailing their objects, this is a fascinating showcase of bizarre and intriguing objects. Included are collections of skulls, mummified body parts, occultic objects, and various carnival, side-show and criminal ephemera. Detailed captions tell the curious stories behind each object, many of which are being shown outside the private world of their collections for the first time. Y'all, I need some book recommendations because I'm flailing. I want to read something that is dark, a little morbid, a little quirky. The vibe I'm looking for is along the lines of Edward Carey's Little. It can be scary, but it doesn't have to be. A character or two should be a little outside social norms in their behavior, and there should probably be some detached body parts somewhere in it. Any ideas?

Eyelit I don‘t know if it fits the Dark requirement but it fits morbid and quirky... 4y
kalinichta @Eyelit Oo, interesting, thank you! 4y

We are reading about weird people who collect weird things. If I were rich, I‘d surely be featured in this book. I have a “Cabinet of Curiosities”, but just settle for random, interesting artifacts stuff I find outside for free like bird skulls and cow teeth. #catsoflitsy

RebL My ex is an archaeologist. We had all kinds of bones around the house. Horse, mammoth, bison, camel... you name it. (No humans!) 5y

Book & pop haul from husband! He, by the way, shamelessly flipped through two of these and even read a whole section of Morbid Curiosities. I totally should've read the Star Wars book I got him! Merry Christmas Eve, if you're a christmassy type! Time to drive for 8.5 hours...

BookishMarginalia Have a safe trip! 7y
