4 posts | 20 read | 1 to read
The third installment in an epic series of adventures First Earth Fourteen-year-old Bobby Pendragon is a loyal friend, sports star, devoted pet owner -- and Traveler. Along with his uncle Press, Bobby has visited the alternate dimension of Denduron and participated in a civil war. He's also waded through the endangered underwater territory of Cloral. Now Bobby once again finds himself thrust beyond the boundaries of time and space into a place that seems somewhat familiar: First Earth. Bobby and the Traveler from Cloral -- Spader -- have flumed to New York City, 1937. Against a backdrop of gangsters, swing music, and the distant sound of a brewing war, the two must uncover the evil Saint Dane's newest plot. But is Bobby ready for the difficult choices ahead?

The Never War | D.J. MacHale
Pickpick

Love the direction that Machale took Bobby's character in this book - a hero cannot be perfect and MUST make mistakes for readers to be able to empathize and view the story with realistic expectations and emotions. There isn't always a happy ending, but sometimes a more important course of events that is the path of lesser evil. Another great addition for Bobby as a character, ready for his growth and redemption.

I really enjoyed The Never War. The introduction of a new Traveler, Gunny, who is VERY different than the ones we‘ve met before was refreshing. I also enjoyed the historical aspect of this book and how well MacHale did to keep everything accurate. Bobby also begins to dive deeper into his responsibilities as a Traveler and I really like the direction he is going in. Overall, I really, really enjoyed this read.
