A Summer of Drowning
A Summer of Drowning | John Burnside
4 posts | 3 read | 7 to read
A young girl, Liv, lives with her mother on a remote island in the Arctic Circle. Her only friend is an old man who beguiles her with tales of trolls, mermaids, and the huldra, a wild spirit who appears as an irresistably beautiful girl, to tempt young men to danger and death. Then two boys drown within weeks of each other under mysterious circumstances, in the still, moonlit waters off the shores of Liv's home. Were the deaths accidental or were the boys lured to their doom by a malevolent spirit?

My TBR pile has slightly totally completely exploded which is nothing new but my reading tastes have changed this year due to a dawning awareness of the way this society keeps on shoving me and mine to the edges. But books and dust...speaking of which. I am excited for Pullman's Book of Dust. #rambling

People have gushed about this book and author so I figured I would see for myself what the fuss is all about.

What say you?

Lindy Darn, the print is too small for me to read this. 😟 8y

Lindy @@shawnmooney Twitter was a good solution. I was able to enlarge there. Delicacy of features is well-put in this excerpt. It makes me want to read further. 8y

Someone just posted an intriguing excerpt from this on Twitter. From the blurb, I'm undecided. Since no one seems to have posted about it here, I thought I'd see if anyone had anything to say. In fact, why not, I'll post the excerpt in a follow-up post...stay tuned!
