A delightful queer romantic fantasy full of friends-to-lovers chemistry, found family, rival family drama, and cozy garden magic from two acclaimed YA authors making their debut in the adult space. Yael Clauneck is the only scion of an obscenely wealthy banking family with its fingers in every pie in the realm. They’re on the precipice of a predetermined life when they flee their own graduation party, galloping away in search of…well, they’re not sure, but maybe the chance to feel like life can still be a grand adventure. Margot Greenwillow—talented plant witch, tea lover, and greenhouse owner—has never felt further from adventure in her life. She’s been desperately trying to keep what remains of her family's magic remedies business afloat. So when her childhood friend and former crush, Yael, rides back into her life, she’s shocked. But perhaps this could be a good thing. After all, Margot could use an assistant in the greenhouses. Yael has no experience or, honestly, practical skills, but they’re delighted to accept. They can lay low for a while, flirting with Margot while they figure out what to do next. Meanwhile, Margot has plans of her own—but plans are notoriously unreliable things, unlikely to survive a swiftly blooming mutual attraction, not to mention the machinations of parents determined to get their heir back . . . no matter the cost.

Mehso-so

This wasn't for me. I loved the sound of a cosy queer cottagecore fantasy but struggled to stay interested.

Nothing clicked. I didn't really like the characters, I wasn't interested in the world or plot and I kept having to force myself to carry on reading.

There's also some controversy surrounding this book and the author's response to criticism.

Thanks to #NetGalley for the #ARC

PuddleJumper @Faranae 🤣🤣 I'm sure there is one. There were antisemitic stereotypes. There was some stuff with the author responding to criticism but I think it got deleted. 1mo

I enjoyed this cozy fantasy romance. The characters were fun, even the ones that weren‘t well-developed (Yael‘s parents are practically mustache-twirling villain caricatures) and the fantasy elements (magic) seemed almost unimportant, as though the authors couldn‘t be bothered to really craft a fantasy world. Still, it was a good story, even if I‘m not sold on the idea of a sequel.

This cozy fantasy romance follows a plant witch trying to repay her parents' debts and save her town and the heir to the very family threatening her future who runs away to work at her greenhouse. Just pure sweetness. I loved the nonbinary representation and the explorations of different kinds of magic.

Yael is trying to escape the life their parents have planned. Margot is trying to save her family‘s business. Romance blossoms. Things become more complicated w/ a lost will, disapproving parents, & a patron not willing to let go.

Adorable! I wish the world building had been stronger, & I don‘t like time skips over important plot points. But I loved the characters, the setting was lushly green & cozy, & the romance was very sweet. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
