From New York Times bestselling author of The Wedding Dress comes The Wedding Shop. Two women separated by decades. Both set out to help others find their dreams when their own have crumbled. It's the early 1930s, but Cora Scott is walking in stride as a career woman ?after having inherited her great aunt's wedding shop in Hearts Bend, Tennessee, where brides come from as far away as Birmingham to experience her famed bridal treatment. Meanwhile, Cora is counting down the days until her own true love returns from the river to make her his bride. But days turn into months and months to years. All the while, Birch Good continues to woo Cora and try to show her that while he is solid and dependable, he can sweep her off her feet. ?More than eighty years later, former ?Air Force Captain Haley Morgan has returned home to Heart's Bend after finishing her commitment to military service. After the devastating death of her best friend, Tammy, and discovering the truth about the man she loved, Haley is searching for her place in life. When Haley decides to reopen the romantic but abandoned wedding shop where she and Tammy played and dreamed as children, she begins a journey of courage, mystery, and love. As Coras and ?Haley's stories intertwine through time in the shadow of the beloved wedding shop, they both discover the power of their own dreams and the magic of everyday love.

I needed a light hearted romance after some tougher topical reads. Author Rachel Hauck can always bring a smile to my face. Her writing style brings history and current characters together and I get chills because while her writing is fictional, it also isn't "out of the realm of possibility". Readers of the author, get an update on characters from another of her books The Wedding Dress, though you wouldn't be lost having not read it.

"To the friends of my youth, with whom I dreamed, rode bikes in the street, and created make believe worlds in our basements and bedrooms...we may not have seen each other in decades, but the echoes of our laughter rebounds in my heart, still."

When Haley Morgan returns to her hometown and restores The Wedding Shop, Hauck intertwines her story with the shop's previous proprietress. With each passing page, their experiences complement each other beautifully to share an excellent narrative of grace, forgiveness and restoration. It‘s a heartwarming read with a good blend of historical and contemporary. I highly recommend it. (I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.)

This book is keeping me company while we fish. I'm babysitting that bobber in the background. I caught a fish earlier (and released him back to the pond). I enjoy watching my husband fish while I read a lot more.

I naively didn't realize what 'inspired fiction' meant - I assumed really great writing. Wrong!! It meant God doth provide everything - including Deus Ex Machina answers to all of life's petty worries. Need money - pray. Need a husband - pray. It was too formulaic a story and relied too heavily on God as a catch all plot device. Boo!
