Murder in the Bookshop
Murder in the Bookshop: The start of a BRAND NEW totally addictive WW1 cozy murder mystery from Anita Davison for 2023 | Anita Davison
3 posts | 2 read
A lovely mystery evocative of the period from a talented writer. Helena Dixon, bestselling author of the Miss Underhay mysteries Someones been read their last rites... 1915, London: Working in the dusty bookshop that her Aunt Violet mysteriously inherited, Hannah Merrill is accustomed to finding twists in every tale. But discovering her beloved best friend Lily-Anne with a paperknife through her heart in the middle of the bookshop, is not a plotline she saw coming. The case is anything but textbook. With the discovery of a coded German message, and Hannahs instinct that Lily-Annes husband is keeping secrets, she determines to get to the bottom of it. She cant do it alone though. To crack this case, Hannah will need to enlist the help of her outrageous, opinionated, only-occasionally-objectionable Aunt Violet. They think theyre making progress until one of their chief suspects is found dead. And Hannah realises that she is herself now in the murderers sights. Will the final chapter be the ending of a killer... or just a killer ending? A totally addictive, WW1-set cozy mystery, perfect for fans of Verity Bright, T.E. Kinsey, and Agatha Christie.

A fun fast read. Hannah discovers the body of her best friend shortly after opening up the bookstore. She immediately sends for the police. As she tries to find out who could have killed her friend, she finds dark secrets in the lives of those around her, including involvement with German spies. Likable characters and I hope the cat will continue to be part of the series.

I liked this more near the end than anywhere else. I really liked Aunt Violet and wish we‘d seen more of her; I never completely warmed up to Hannah. I‘m pretty sure I‘d read another book in this series. #audiowalk. I started The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches as my new walking book.

I haven‘t said anything about why I‘m in SC; it‘s to help my brother who is very sick with pancreatic cancer. Since I‘ve been here, my father (favorite pic in the middle) entered hospice and died yesterday. Rough month for me. I‘ve been doing a lot of walking. and a lot of listening to audiobooks. I‘m almost through with the tagged book but still don‘t know if I like it. #audiowalk
