How come we tend to not learn the history of the greatest inventions of our lifetimes? I guess some of us think it's all magic. The Innovators tells the story the people who got us to stare at our smart phones and how much was gained, lost, and sacrificed for us to get here. Very interesting and as with any of Isaacson's biographies very entertaining.

A very fascinating history/group biography of the people and technologies that created the digital age - from Ada, Countess of Lovelace to Google. Furthermore, it makes a necessary (and timely) case that innovation in this era has been driven by a mix of government initiatives, private enterprises, and free/open source collaboration - worthwhile to note as we fight to protect net neutrality.

At the end of his Leonardo biography, Walter Isaacson encourages “going down rabbit holes.” I might be going down a biographies-of-brilliant-people rabbit hole.

The Innovators by Walter Isaacson. This is quite the hefty read, but every page is worth it. It does start off a bit slow in the beginning, but gets very intriguing about a hundred pages in, and you won't want to put it down. This is the story of how innovations have been made.

Whew! I finally finished this book with a mix of audio and physical book. It is certainly dense and time consuming, but I also found it a fascinating story. I think anyone who has any interest in technology, the digital age, or science would probably enjoy it. And it was well written and researched!

I really want to snuggle up by the fire and try to finish this book. I am so close... But what I am going to do is go outside and exercise. *sigh* It is hard to be responsible.

It seems most people on Litsy do not like this book, but I am finding the story fascinating. And that is saying something because I am listening to it on audio, which I very rarely do. But than again, maybe it is just the science nerd in me? Either way, I am pretty proud of myself - maybe this is what I needed to finally get into audiobooks!

Megabooks That was my reading goal last year. This year is graphic novels! I'm an audiobook addict now. 😉 7y
LizzyM @Ebooksandcooks Yeah, I need to keep working on converting to audiobooks! I think I just need to be pickier about what I listen to. 7y

Hearing about computer innovators who loved tinkering in their garages and wonder if this generation can ever match what's been achieved.
