The Happy Life of Isadora Bentley | Courtney Walsh
7 posts | 7 read | 10 to read
Shes out to prove that theres no such thing as choosing happiness. Isadora Bentley follows the rules. Isadora Bentley likes things just so. Isadora Bentley believes that happiness is something that flat-out doesnt exist in her lifeand never will. As a university researcher, Isadora keeps to herself as much as possible. She avoids the students shes supposed to befriend and mentor. She stays away from her neighbors and lives her own quiet, organized life in her own quiet, organized apartment. And she will never get involved in a romantic relationship againespecially with another academic. It will be just Isadora and her research. Forever. But on her thirtieth birthday, Isadora does something completely out of character. The young woman who never does anything on a whim makes an impulse purchase of a magazine featuring a silly article detailing Thirty-One Ways to Be Happywhich includes everything from smiling at strangers to exercising for endorphins to giving in to your chocolate cravings. Isadora decides to create her own secret research projectproving the writer of the ridiculous piece wrong. As Isadora gets deeper into her researchand meets a handsome professor along the wayshes stunned to discover that maybe, just maybe, shes proving herself wrong. Perhaps theres actually something to this happiness concept, and possibly theres something to be said for loosening up and letting life take you somewhere . . . happy. Christian womens fiction Stand-alone novel Book length: 100,000 words Perfect for fans of Rachel Linden, Gail Honeyman, and Linda Holmes Includes discussion questions for book clubs

These are my top 2 picks (out of 7 5⭐️ books) for June. That HAS to be a record! 😳

Isadora is my top pick for several reasons not the least of which is my love for Isadora herself. 💙

Agreeable Murder has honorable mention for its over-the-top satire/humor. 😂🤣🩵

Feeling like I've read this story before... a smash-up of Eleanore Oliphant (Gail Honeyman), The Lido (Libby Page), The Authenticity Project (Clare Pooley) and despite all that, I'm bamboozled when the uphill trajectory nosedives and I found myself emotional on behalf of the multigenerational crew of fictional characters. Sigh.

Thanks to #netgalley and #thomasnelson for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. Omg this book was just perfection for me. Heartwarming, funny, with some poignant touching moments, and very loveable characters. Once I started reading it was hard to put this one down, it was one of those books, you never want to end. I loved the character development Isadora goes through. This was a hug in a book, a perfect feel good read. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

robinb I LOVED this one as well! Sooo good! 😍 8mo

I loved this book. Isadora is a 30 yo university researcher who because she has an analytical mind and a lifelong history of emotional abuse has a hard time with social interactions. She is tasked with helping a psychology professor with his new book research while she‘s also conducting her own study to disprove the validity of a magazine article entitled “31 Ways to be Happy”. As she tests each item on the list, she begins to notice changes in 🔽

robinb her life…new connections, new outlooks, new possibilities. But can her fear of being vulnerable and hurt ever truly be overcome to find her way to happiness in life? Isadora was such an endearingly unique character…frustrating at times but also cheer worthy and relatable. As we watch her grow and gain confidence through shared experiences with new people, she becomes a brave and self-aware woman who must decide if and how 🔽 11mo
robinb she can move forward with her newfound life lessons while also living with her fears. Funny, heartbreaking and with a stellar cast of secondary characters, this one is special and a lovely inspiration. 5/5⭐️ 11mo
