Based on the real life story of Charles Ignatius Sancho, this is historical fiction about the man who was believed to be the fist Black person to vote in Britain. Acclaimed actor and author Paterson Joseph takes us back to Sancho's beginnings, born on a slave ship where both of his parents died, to his childhood raised by three sisters as their "pet", to his patronage from a duke who educated him, and becoming a leader against slavery in Britain.

TieDyeDude That sounds fascinating. Do you know, is it fiction built around actual events, or more guess work about his life? 8mo
Sara_Planz It‘s based on a real person drawing from actual history but with some imaginings 8mo

All that I have seen of life these twenty years has led to this conclusion: Kindness is the greatest richness a life - any life - can afford. Kindness - the notion of kinship - should be a universal religion.

A Charles Dickens like tale of a free black man in 1700's England. Was longlisted for the Walter Scott prize. Loved the world building and the sweep of the story. Such a great audio book. This started as a play and was read by the actor/author. 4 🌟

Soubhiville I‘ve never heard of this. The cover is pretty, and I hope it‘s a great read. 1y
