I've seen the #AlphabetGame bouncing around Litsy and thanks to a tag from @AmyK1 decided to jump in! I always have a lot of trouble playing these games because I'm terrible at remembering books under pressure. 😂 So I thought I would just start at the beginning of my shelves and go through until I found a book with A... and then keep going until I found a B... etc!

Afraid to Ride is by one of my all-time favorite author/illustrators, C.W. ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) Anderson. His most famous books are the children's books featuring Billy & Blaze, but I love all of his stories, including this one about a girl who takes fall from a horse and needs time to get her courage back, which she does by helping a horse that's also afraid.

Brown Sunshine and Cinnabar are both by another childhood favorite author, Marguerite Henry, who wrote many famous horse books. Brown Sunshine is okay, but like a lot of ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) Henry's later books, feels a little thin on character development, and of course lacks Wesley Dennis's magical illustrations (he had passed away by the time this book was published). A fine story, but not one I love.

Cinnabar is about a foxhunt - from the perspective of the fox! The hunters include George Washington, so there is a tiny smidge of historical fiction to it. Cinnabar ends up safe and sound, of course. The illustrations are ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) delightful and the story fun, although it's been quite a few years since I read this one. It's definitely due for a reread!!

eeclayton I'm also terrible at remembering anything under pressure, so I find myself browsing my shelves (both 3D and virtual) again and again for this challenge so I don't end up forgetting an important title 😂 2y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Thank you for playing 📚🙌🏻 2y
mabell Ha! I just put Brown Sunshine in a little library! I found a couple of library discards, so I gave one to my mom (who loves Marguerite Henry and horse stories in general) and the second one I put in the little library TODAY! 🤯🤣 2y
Leftcoastzen C.W.Anderson!👍👏Yay! 2y
TheAromaofBooks @mabell - I noticed with a few of Henry's later books (Misty's Twilight also comes to mind) that she tries to cover several years in one short (~100pgs with illustrations) children's book. It makes it difficult to connect to the characters. It's still a fine story, it just lacks the heart that many of her earlier books had in spades. I'm with your mom, though - always been a horse story girl!! 😁 2y
TheAromaofBooks @Leftcoastzen - I love his books so much!!! I remember being little and going to the Columbus library for the first time, which is probably 10x bigger than our local library, and realizing that there were MORE ANDERSON BOOKS! It was SO magical! 2y
