pickI don‘t read much fantasy these days because too often it‘s like something I‘ve already read. But Frances Hardinge never disappoints. Her worlds are fresh, wondrous & thought provoking. Unraveller draws on fairytale & myth, throwing in Luddite history, monk-like spiders & people dealing with PTSD after recovering from being cursed. The whole system of curses in this story is highly original and I loved it.
Everyone has anchors. But the ropes break one by one. You feel the whiplash in your heart. You know you‘ll be adrift when the storm comes. And sometimes you have to loose the last anchor yourself.
