84 Ribbons
84 Ribbons | Paddy Eger
1 post | 1 read | 1 to read
Marta Selbryth steps into womanhood and onto center stage. We feel the music swell and the moment arrive for Marta, and ballerinas everywhere. As Marta realizes her dream, life's challenges off stage are not at all what she anticipated. We walk beside her as she approaches each twist and turn in her new life. A compelling coming-of-age novel, this look inside the world of ballet offers both inspiration and heartbreak. "A pure coming-of-age tale with moments of quiet drama '84 Ribbons' is about thriving despite the imperfections of life." says YA Foresight, ForeWord Reviews. "Any young dancer will find herself in Marta's story," says Newbery Honor Author, Kirby Larson, "Hattie Big Sky." Chosen DanceSpirit Magazine's Pick of the Month, April 2014.

As part of my #balletreads challenge I downloaded this from the KU program. This is a strong coming of age story. Marta is 17 in 1958 and she‘s finally been selected to join a ballet company. The book covers a year in Marta‘s life and really touches on important issues dancers face in reality. Solid read. #readingchallenge2022
