The Abyss | 
panOnly after I received this in the mail did I realize I'd read one of this guy's books before... and hated it. It's a scenario I like - ancient evil descends on a small town with a large cast of characters (Stephen King is rather good at this) - but it's a clumsy mixture of the kind-of-clever and just plain dumb, and the style alternates between clunky, brilliant, and overwritten, sometimes all in the same sentence.
