A Therapist's Garden
A Therapist's Garden: Using Plants to Revitalize Your Spirit | Erik Keller
2 posts | 2 read | 1 to read
The Zen of mixing mud with seniors; crafting surprising salads out of weeds; and a hidden rabbit bringing joy to girls in a juvenile detention center. These are a few of the nearly 100 stories that Erik Keller takes readers on through a journey of how interacting with plants and nature can help heal mental, emotional, and physical trauma. Through the lens of January to December, in a New England landscape, discover how horticultural therapy improves the lives of those in pain including special-needs children, cancer patients, and disabled seniors. Though A Therapist's Garden primarily deals with the emotional and physical benefits of nature-based interactions, it also provides an array of practical gardening advice and tips through client stories as well as monthly outings and crafts that will surprise and delight readers.

This book has been the best horticultural piece of literature, that I have read so far this year. I would very much love to buy a copy for myself, once I can source out somewhere in my country to buy it. I think that it would be a truly valued addition to my personal library, for years to come.

I was so excited for the premise of the book, therapy and gardening/plants! However I often struggled with the writing style, including that it felt abrupt at times. I was also hopeful it would be more case study related, that I would get to know the people the author worked with better and was sad about the lack of depth that this structure allowed. That being said, the plant knowledge in here is great and I loved the month breakdown!
