Little Wing is the powerful story of two families over three generations. In the 1960s, a pregnant 16-year-old is banished to one of the remotest parts of the UK. Years later, Nell and Dougie are both at critical moments in their lives when their paths cross. Between Camden, Colchester and the Outer Hebrides, the three story lines collide when secrets are uncovered and answers sought. Little Wing is a novel about resilience, forgiveness and the true meaning of family, about finding one's place in the world and discovering how we all belong somewhere and to someone.

A book that I picked up for my first read of the new year purely for its cover, which looked like somewhere to blow away the Christmas excess. What then started as a so-so read, nothing new and not grabbing me, suddenly took off (ha!) once the focus moved to the Outer Hebrides, and turned into a really sweet and moving story of family and belonging, with a little romance in there too. A lovely start to the new year.

Another great read, set between London, Essex and Outer Hebrides. It spans over three generations of two families. Secrets have been kept fir years now Nell Hartley wants to find out the truth about her family. It was really good. I loved the bits set in Scotland!

April feels like it was a really good reading month even though I apparently only finished three books. But they were all great! I muddled up the bookspin numbers & haven't started my #doublespin yet, but I will get to it. I didn't fill in my blank spaces for birthday present books because one of them was Little Wing which was already on my list because I wanted an excuse to buy it, and I haven't started my other gift book yet.

Loved it! Not as overtly a romance as her earlier books, though there is still one in there of course. I‘ve always enjoyed Freya‘s books and she‘s just getting better as she (and me) get older. Great sense of place in this one which ends up on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides. Definitely requires tissues too.

nocto Pretty certain this was my #doublespin for April too though I can‘t find the numbers at the moment! 2y

This story is told by way of Nell and Dougie, a couple of misplaced people, beginning in 1969 and spanning nearly four decades. It‘s beautifully and lyrically written. The vivid descriptions of Harris really made me want to visit. It‘s an emotional read and really tugs at your heartstrings. It‘s a tale about love, friendship, acceptance, forgiveness and finding out where you belong in the world. Heartwarming and poignant. #Pigeonhole
