Lydia Maria Child's classic New England Thanksgiving poem, which first appeared in 1844, is given a modern treatment by illustrator Nadine Bernard Westcott in this fun seasonal picture-book. I appreciated the fact that Westcott has “updated“ the Thanksgiving journey described in the poem—her family are modern city dwellers, and drive a modern car—while still retaining the traditional elements in the song, such as horse-drawn sleighs.

This is Grandma's Thanksgiving song that she would sing with us every year. This is our 10th Thanksgiving since she passed away. It was her favorite holiday, and we still use some of her recipes and of course sing her song. ❤

Wishing all of you a happy Thanksgiving and a wonderful day spending time with your loved ones. Even if you don't always agree about everything (or anything), cherish these times together and focus on the happy times.

1. No set plans.
2. Thanksgiving is kind of my favorite holiday: cook, eat, dishes, nap, eat leftovers. No stress! When we were kids, we would eat lunch at one grandparents' house & supper at the other, about 8 miles away. Dad would take all of us kids & we would WALK from one house to the other! We didn't always make it (Mom picked us up in the van on her way over), but it was a challenge. We still go for a walk every year!
