Split City: A Jesus Spares Mystery
Split City: A Jesus Spares Mystery | Andy Straka
1 post | 1 read
Murder in the Catskills does a double take when former pro bowler Billy Gills is summoned to the county morgue to verify the body of his identical twin brother Bo. Famous for his quirky sense of fashion, fitness fanaticism, and unusual hobbies, former pro bowler Bo is the founder of TreadBo, a specialty bowling shoe manufacturer headquartered in the county seat of Partridgeberry. Bo's brother Billy, no longer famous, and by his own admission carrying a little too much weight by today's skinny jean standards, is the proprietor of Split City Lanes, a classic hometown bowling alley, located nearby in the once-charming rundown lakeside town of Twin Strikes. Split City Lanes serves as home to Jesus Spares, a monthly church service with food, bowling, and socializing, where almost anything can happen...and often does. Which is a good thing, because Billy is going to need every ounce of faith to solve the mystery of his eccentric twin brother's death. For fans of Julia Spencer-Fleming, Dave Barry, Donna Andrews, Brad Parks, and Spencer Quinn.

Pickpick

This is a character-driven novel, as I believe most cozies are. The protagonist is likable and the primary feature of the story with the mystery itself being secondary. The supporting cast of characters were interesting and entertaining. The small-town setting is perfect for the quirkiness of some of the characters. It also was perfect for the small town politics of the story leaving the reader to wonder who could be trusted.
