Caitlin Baraschs writing overflows with humor, compassion, intrigue, the chaos of identity. It overflows with life, itself.Jonathan Safran Foer This book is a ride. An unruly study of fixation, performance, and the exquisite agony of anonymity.Raven Leilani, New York Times bestselling author of Luster A wry and bold debut novel, which is at once an irresistible catastrophe waiting to happen and an unflinching exploration of how we narrate the stories of our lives, as an aspiring novelist finds herself stalkingand writing abouther boyfriends ex-girlfriend. I cant help but compare our worth as writers, as lovers, as women. Is anything solely mine, or will I always dwell in someone elses shadow? Twenty-four-year-old bookseller and New Yorker Naomi Ackerman, desperate to write a novel, struggles to find the right story to tell. When, after years of disastrous Tinder dates, she meets Caleba perfectly nice guy with a Welsh accent and a unique patience for all of her quirksshe feels she's finally stumbled onto a time-honored subject: love. But then Caleb's ex-girlfriend, Rosemary, enters the scene. When Naomi learns that Rosemary is not safely tucked away overseas as she'd assumed but in fact lives in New York and works in the literary world, she is fundamentally threatened and intrigued in equal measure. On paper, Rosemary sounds like a better version of Naomibut if they both fell for the same man, they must have something more essential in common. Determined to figure out how their stories intertwine, Naomi's casual Instagram stalking morphs into a full-blown friendship under false pretenses. She can't seem to get herself to quit Rosemary, in whom she discovers an unexpected confidantand she can't stop writing about her either, having now found a more interesting subject for her nascent novel. As her lies and half-truths spiral out of her control, and fact and fiction become increasingly difficult to separate, Naomi manipulates the most important people in her lifeher family, her friends, Caleb, Rosemary, and, perhaps most devastatingly, herselfin pursuit of her craft. Ultimately, shes forced to decide who and what she's willing to sacrifice to write them all the perfect ending.

Naomi finally finds a decent guy and then becomes obsessed with his ex, online stalking turns to a friendship formed under false pretenses. And she‘s writing a book about it. Naomi is a self-sabotaging narcissist and her decisions don‘t even make sense, neither do the ex‘s (admittedly her actions are a plot twist I didn‘t see coming) but still. And the guy doesn‘t seem worth any of this and also like he deserves better than both of them?

I left this wanted to punch the narrator (Naomi) in the face.. but maybe that was the point? This is great on audio, and would be fantastic to read on a beach somewhere!

This was such a huge waste of time for me. It was very character-driven well in my opinion, entirely character-driven there was no substantial plot. Then the characters write about themselves being different characters and it gets convoluted. Nothing of I happen at all. I never write bad reviews but don't waste your Audible credit, if you like a little action in your reading.

Couldn't decide what to read and this caught my eye.. we'll see if it lives up to the buzz. So far, I'm intrigued, a woman who is stalking her boyfriend's ex girlfriend! Interesting concept, let's hope the execution is on point!

Alfoster It‘s good! Enjoy! 2y

Fascinating book that kept me from adulting until I finished it! Naomi is in love but obsessed with her boyfriend‘s ex and stalks her on social media until she finds a way to casually “run into” her in a coffee shop. And you can imagine how things go downhill from there! Yep, might have you looking over your shoulder…but it‘s worth it!

Okay, that was crazy 😳. An unlikeable main character starts being obsessed with her boyfriends ex, befriends her and wants to write a book about it.

I'm a #saturdaylibrarian today. I'm working on getting these books cataloged to be ready to go out on Tuesday.

Erinsuereads This trend of the author's name being giant down the spine and the title being so small you can hardly read it is real weird. 2y
mandarchy When I was a kid and my mom went back to college, she would stack all her books in the lvgrm. I was staring at the spines thinking authors like Phil O. Sophy were really big into themselves making their names bigger than their titles. 2y
Ddzmini What is it about metal shelf‘s that just looks so clean and beautiful…. Oh that‘s the books doing that 🥰📚🤗 2y
