For fans of the Netflix hit original series Dead to Me comes "a captivating thriller" (Megan Miranda, New York Times bestselling author) about what happens when the death of a husband and father isn't the tragedy everyone believes. Emma Walsh's looks-great-on-the-outside marriage is at the breaking point, and she's finally worked up the courage to confront her husband James about his drinking--his alcoholic rages, his blackouts, the uncertainty and fear his behavior has created for her and their two kids. But James never shows up to meet her as planned, and all her righteous words go unsaid. And unsaid they remain, because the next time Emma sees James, his body is crumpled amidst the wreckage of his flashy car, smashed to its final resting place halfway through the back wall of their suburban house's roomy garage. In the aftermath of the fatal crash, she and her teenage children, Kelsey and Hunter, begin to imagine life without the looming, volcanic presence of their husband and father. Buoyed by the support of her two closest friends, Emma struggles to deal with her grief, complicated by the knowledge that James's legacy as an upstanding business owner and family man shines only because so many people were so willing, for so long, to keep his secrets--secrets that twist into new and unexpected shapes as the mysterious details of his last day of life begin to come to light.

4¼⭐The more you learn about the victim…the more you realize that he wasn‘t a good person and that maybe…driving his car through his garage was exactly what he deserved. But was it murder? I was feeling kind of meh about this story throughout most of it. But then the ending with its different levels of reveals was pretty clever and ultimately satisfying…making it one of those books that becomes all the better once you learn how it all plays out.

I‘m giving this a thumbs up because of pretty good plotting but I have to say I didn‘t really like any of the characters. This is not a game stop for me but the plot, while as I say is pretty good, it is also convoluted and incredulous. Read at your own risk. Hope I used incredulous correctly - meant hard to believe. Should have just said that LOL. Please criticize me if I have misused!

Happy Publication Day! This domestic thriller opens with a literal bang- Emma wakes up to discover her husband‘s body in their garage. She starts to look into more of what he hid from her- just as he hid his drunken rages from outsiders. Told across multiple perspectives, this takes some surprising turns along the way. It clips along at a consistently fast pace and the characters- even when they act immaturely- come to life. I wonder what‘s next!

Intense. Captivating. Really kept me guessing. James‘ death is ruled an accident, but Emma suspects otherwise. And she is right.

At some point, all the main characters had a motive for wanting James dead. And I found myself thinking “good for them, he needs to be gone.”

I literally sped through this book. It was extremely suspenseful. I rated it 4 out of 5. It would have been a 5, but the end was a bit confusing. I had to read it twice to ensure I understood what had happened. Even now, I‘m not totally sure. If anyone else has read it, please reach out to me so we can discuss. This was one of those books that I didn‘t want to end. That doesn‘t happen often. Thank you Goodreads, for the ARC.
